Volunteers and staff assembled 100 Comforts of Home bags for the NICU and PICU patient families at Children’s Hospital New Orleans on December 19, and delivered over a dozen more to Ochsner Hospital for Children and Ochsner Baptist Hospital a few days later. Special thanks you’s to the Kiwanis Club of New Orleans, Riverdale Class of 1966, the Boyer and Cobb families, DSLD Homes – Louisiana, students at Our Lady of Visitation, Combel’s Custom Cruisers, the Rough Riders Bike Club, and other supporters, for supplying gift cards, toys, games, toiletries and more.
“Comforts of Home” is a new RMHC-SLA program, developed during the pandemic to help families who are experiencing financial and emotional distress because of a medical emergency. Comfort bags are filled with hand selected items for the neonatal or pediatric patient and their parents or siblings, including restaurant or gas gift cards, games, soft blankets, books and other toiletries, and delivered to hospital social workers for distribution as needed
