Malaika also known as “Muscles” is from Pearl River, LA. She was born on July 22, 2024. “Muscles” decided she wanted to come out early and was born at 22 weeks and 3 days. She has been intubated since birth and recently had a trach
surgery which will allow her lungs to grow and heal faster. “Muscles” was born weighing 1 lb 2 ounces but is now 14 pounds! Her mom, Ariel, shared that she is super strong physically, mentally, and most importantly spiritually. Her name,
Malaika means “Messenger of God” or “Angel” in Hebrew and Swahili. According to Ariel, “Muscles” has the best personality at such a young age. Ariel truly appreciates RMHCSLA and shared, “Having someone to speak with about available
resources and having meals provided eased a lot of financial burdens during this time.” She particularly appreciates QualiTEAtime, when she is able to have a kind ear and warm heart to listen so she doesn’t feel all alone and left with her own
thoughts. She applauds having a nice, modern facility and caring staff, not to mention access to a laundry room which also alleviates stress for her. Her fondest memory during her stay was the Holiday Christmas Party which she deemed as
“Magical” and the Halloween Trick or Treat was lots of fun. “This is the most helpful and loving charity made up of beautiful people”, says Ariel.
