Time to break out the family tartan for a good cause! Participation in Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Louisiana’s (RMHC-SLA) Kilts for Kids annual, online, peer to peer fundraiser is now open to women and children in addition to men.
“All heroes don’t wear capes – our heroes wear kilts,” said Marianne Addy, RMHC-SLA Executive Director. “Our ‘Men in Kilts’ fundraiser has always been an event that’s fun for the entire family, so we changed its name to be more inclusive and added more categories to include women, children, and larger groups.”
Participants wear their kilts for a photo session which is uploaded to the online web site and shared with family and friends with each vote of $10 benefitting the local Ronald McDonald House charity and counting as a vote for that competitor or team. A party will be held at Port Orleans Brewing Company in New Orleans on Saturday, April 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. at which the winning clan and chiefs will be announced.

Sponsors for this year’s fundraiser include Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana and the Whitman Family Foundation, and additional sponsorship opportunities are available.
For those who wish to participate and may not yet have a kilt, RMHC-SLA has a vendor who can supply a kilt for only about $25 or complete outfit for around $65. Participants do not have to be of Scottish or Irish descent to compete.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Louisiana has been providing a “home away from home” since 1983 in the heart of New Orleans, at 4403 Canal St. Each year they house over 435 families who travel many miles to receive specialized medical care for their seriously ill or injured child at nearby medical facilities. At Ronald McDonald House they find a free place to stay, meals to eat, transportation if needed, and a built-in support system where families help one other. Together, they face and overcome some of the most trying times in their lives. Proceeds from this fundraiser goes a long way to helping RMHC-SLA provide this service to out of town families from Louisiana and across the United States and abroad.
