Wrexen

red-squiggle

Wrexen Ace made his entrance into the world at just 23 weeks, facing the challenge of having premature lungs. At 2 months old, he was transferred to Manning’s Family Children’s Hospital in New Orleans from Lake Charles, LA. On December 26, 2024, he underwent tracheostomy and hernia repair.

Doctors advised his parents, Amber and Shane, that Wrexen would need the trachea tube until he turns 5. They wholeheartedly believe it was the best choice for their little warrior. The Matecun journey is nothing short of remarkable, filled with surprises, joy, and a heartwarming conclusion!
Here’s the story from Amber’s perspective- let’s rewind a bit.

Back in March, I had my last period, and then I missed April and May. Not unusual for me, so I br

ushed it off. During those months, I was focused on caring for my sick Momma, sharing everything with her, including the missed cycles. She insisted, “Amba, you’re pregnant. Take a test.” My sister, Nicole, rushed to grab one, but I thought I’d wait. Then, with
Momma getting worse, it slipped my mind. On July 18, 2024, I took a pregnancy test on my wedding anniversary, feeling excited about our cruise, which was scheduled for the following week. To my shock, all three tests were positive!

I scheduled an appointment with my OBGYN for July 24. During the ultrasound, the nurse exclaimed, “Oh, you have a big baby in there!” I couldn’t believe I was 6 months along without knowing! Later, I learned that my baby was in distress, so we were rushed off to the delivery room, and within 20 minutes, I gave birth to a precious baby boy, Wrexen, a micro preemie at just 1lb 8.8 oz. What a surprise! Amber’s mom may be gone, but Amber feels her presence in her adorable baby boy, believing she’s in heaven saying, “Amba, always listen to your momma.”

The Matecun Family spent 171 nights at RMHCSLA, participating in fantastic events and even being featured for the 2025 McDonald’s All-American Games on ESPN!
Today, March 13, 2025, is an exciting day as Wrexen, Amber, and Shane head home after their amazing
journey!
